Late August is when Bastar's rivers run heaviest — the single window when Chitrakote, the broadest waterfall in India and rightly called the Niagara of India, swells into its full horseshoe roar. Over five days you stand beneath the 300-foot tiers of Tirathgarh, step into the million-year-old dark of Mandarkonta caves, climb the misty ridge of Dholkal, and reach Nambi, a 700-foot fall run entirely by local self-help groups. You walk Jagdalpur's heritage lanes, read the carved stone of the Barsur temples, and share a tribal plate above Mendri Ghumar. Every guide, every trail, every meal here feeds a livelihood in the communities who call Bastar home. Come, witness the monsoon, the waterfalls, and the living heartland for yourself.

  • Chitrakote in Full Flood — Stand before the Niagara of India at its monsoon peak, where the Indravati spreads across the entire horseshoe rim, loud enough to feel in your chest.
  • Chhattisgarh's Tallest Waterfall — Trek 3 km of close forest to Nambi, the highest waterfall in the state, where nearly 700 feet of water drops between sheer cliffs — looked after by local self-help groups and left entirely to itself.
  • Watch the Craft Take Shape — See Bastar's handicraft made by the hands that have always made it, not bought off a shelf but witnessed at its source.
  • Ancient Architecture, Shakti & a Sandstone Ganesha — From the Danteshwari Shakti Peeth at Dantewada to the centuries-old Barsur temples and the 800-year-old Twin Ganesha — one of the world's largest single sandstone statues of Lord Ganesha.
  • A Tribal Plate Above the Falls — Eat local tribal cuisine perched over Mendri Ghumar, and walk Nambi village, where a self-sustaining community keeps its 700-foot waterfall untouched.

Itineraries

Day 1

Date : August 26, 2026

Jagdalpur to Tirathgarh — Sightseeing + Craft

The road bends into Kanger Valley, and Tirathgarh announces itself before you see it — three tiers of water dropping nearly 300 feet over pagoda-shaped rock. Step underground at Mandarkonta, where stalactites and stalagmites have been forming in million-year silence, camera in hand. Watch Bastar handicraft take shape at the maker's own hands before turning back to Jagdalpur for the Heritage Walk — the Jagdalpur palace, the Danteshwari temple, the archaeological museum, and the everyday stories woven between them.

Day 2

Date : August 27, 2026

Jagdalpur to Dantewada — Sightseeing + Adventure

Set out while the hills are still wrapped in mist — the early trek up Dholkal rewards you with a panorama that opens wide at the top. At Dantewada, the Danteshwari temple, one of the Shakti Peeths, holds the tale of how Bastar's Dussehra and its people honour the goddess. Move on to the centuries-old Barsur temples, restored stone by stone — the Battisha and Mama Bhanja shrines among them — and close the day at the Twin Ganesha Temple, where an 800-year-old figure ranks among the world's largest single sandstone statues of Lord Ganesha.

Overnight at Hotel Sunrise / Similar, Dantewada

Day 3

Date : August 28, 2026

Dantewada to Bijapur — Transfer & Sightseeing

Today the road simply ends — at Nambi village in Usur block, where a 3 km trail slips into cool, close forest. It opens onto the Nambi Waterfall, nearly 700 feet of water falling between dramatic cliffs, looked after by local self-help groups and left wholly to itself: no crowds, no concrete, only forest and spray. Round it off with a slow walk through Nambi village, where traditional homes and an unhurried, self-sustaining way of life carry on much as they always have.

Overnight at Nambi Waterfall Camp / Similar, Bijapur

Day 4

Date : August 29, 2026

Bijapur to Chitrakote — Transfer & Sightseeing

This is the day the tour has been building towards: Chitrakote at the height of the monsoon, the Niagara of India spread wide across its horseshoe rim, loud enough to feel in your chest. Down at the lower bank, the river reveals its shivlings as you wade through footbaths and a river walk. Visit the Narayanpal Temple, held to be around a thousand years old, then the local Dev Gudi — the sacred ground of Bastar's own gods and goddesses. Pass Tamda Ghumar, and pause at Mendri Ghumar over a plate of local tribal food as dusk colours the sky.

Day 5

Chitrakote — Sightseeing & Departure

One last trail before goodbye. The Ratenga route is a short hike — about 2.5 km from Chitrakote — that threads past small streams to the seasonal Bijakasha waterfalls, made for an open-sky shower and a barefoot walk over wet rock. Let the forest have the final word before you carry Bastar — its water, its stone, its people — back home with you.
