Gad Dhanora

‘Gad Dhanora’ is an ideal spot for tourists having archaeological interests. The huge Shivalinga excavated from here is phenomenal. The series of brick-built 23 temples of Gupta period obtained from Gad Dhanora also enhances its historical importance. On the way to Raipur from Jagdalpur, 126 kms. away from Jagdalpur, is the tehsil headquarters Keshkal, famous for ‘barah bhawar’ (12 turns) of Keshkal Ghati. 3 kms. away from Keshkal, eastwards, is village Batraali. Again 3 kms.towards its south, there is a place named Gobarheen, which is archaeologically very important. Gad means fort and it is near to village Dhanora, hence the name ‘Gad Dhanora’. King Varaharaj of the Nala dynasty had constructed these 23 Shiva and Vishnu temples. The remnants date back to the 5th century A.D.
